Kung Fu Panda

One of my favorite animations is Kung Fu Panda.  The visuals in each scene are beautiful.  I especially like the outdoor scenes, as a lot of emphasis was put on landscapes, and colorful skies.

Infographics

I really like the animation in this commercial, mostly because of how smooth and clever the transitions are.  The visuals are also simple and make the concepts in the commercial easier to understand.

Cubism mandolin

Mandolin Cubism

I like this example of cubism because of its 3D shapes, which make the subject pop more. I also like the limited pallet of colors, and the odd shape of the woman.

Cubism Rhino

Rhino

I like this example of cubist art for a variety of reasons. Firstly, I love how the pieces that make up the rhino go with the contour of the subject. This brings out more depth. I also like the gradients within each piece, and I like the color scheme.

Surrealism

Surrealism

This is one of my favorite surreal paintings, by Rob Gonsalves. Gonsalves uses perspective in a clever way, by putting the horizon line at the same level as the tabletop and the shore across the river, giving the buildings, and the girl’s building blocks the same ground level. Aside from the optical illusion, this painting also has a beautiful limited palette of colors, so that the hues pop out, without clashing. The subject matter is also charming.

Hyperrealistic piece

Hyperrealism dinner

This piece is extremely ominous and dramatic. The artist makes the piece even more dramatic than it would otherwise be, through intense lighting. The light doesn’t reach the edges of the piece, so that the scene has a dark frame, and and the light is strongest on the plate with the head, where the artist wants to force the viewer to look. There is also something creepy about the tables, and perfectly centered candles in the background. The whole piece works together to give off a creepy vibe.

Hyperrealism

Hyperrealism hand

When I looked up examples of hyperrealism and photo surrealism, I found this piece particularly interesting. I think it’s extremely impressive how the artist made the castle, water and trees rest so naturally on the hand. Especially in difficult areas where the trees and water poke through the fingers, this work demonstrates great skill. I find that the background of clouds makes the work more epic, but doesn’t quite make sense with the hand. I think It would make more sense for the scene to be set on the ground, rather than above the clouds. This would make it seem like the hand could have just scooped up this land/castle from the ground.
